Né en Louisiane, Garth Risk Hallberg a grandi en Caroline du Nord et vit désormais à Brooklyn avec sa femme et ses enfants. Il est notamment chroniqueur pour le supplément littéraire du New York Times. S'il a publié une novella en 2007, A Field Guide to the North American Family, City on Fire (Plon, 2016), son premier roman, a connu un succès commercial et critique considérable à travers le monde et a été adapté en série pour AppleTV+.
